WATER PORTRAITS

Continuing on from my water sculpting project... here I'm creating composite images from many discrete photographs of water.  Individual elements such as hair, skin, emotions, etc., are designed by dyeing water and then dropping or expelling it in a way to create a unique shape.  Other elements are created using the colored water painting process.  Elements are then combined into a single composite image consisting of anywhere from 3 (Avery's Garden) to 1000's of layers (all the rest).  Depending on the complexity of water sculpting, or the number of individual layers, a finished image can take up to 3 months to complete.

DISASSEMBLY
(OF A CHILDHOOD SURVIVAL TACTIC)

"DISASSEMBLY" represents the adulthood exploration of emotions that were suppressed as a child.

Often when raised in a stressed household childhood emotions are held in and replaced by a blank shell of non-emotion.  After so many years of fermentation... what color are these emotions packed away inside of us?  What shape?  What if we could separate and categorize them into fear, love, hate, joy... and sum their integral value in our lives.

ENOLA

"ENOLA"  was inspired by a woman in Corvallis, OR who's treated her body and hair as a canvas for the development of a life-long piece of art.  Weaving various colors into her dreads, facial and body tattoos , jewelry and plugs...  I quickly fell in love with her visually and set out to 'paint' her in water.

LET IT ALL OUT

"LET IT ALL OUT" - Is my first self portrait.  Inspired by the politics of today the exhibited title is often "SELF PORTRAIT IN THE TIME OF TRUMP".

PREY PREY PREDATOR

Inspired by ongoing controversy over use of the confederate flag, "PREY PREY PREDATOR" is a musing on the human injustices this nation was founded and built upon.  Comprised of images of Ishi, Dr. Martin Luther King, and a generic blue eyed pilgrim busy at prayer.

A MATHEMATICIAN IS BORN

Inspired by the amazing mathematician Katherine Johnson who played a key part in the success of many NASA missions while simultaneously breaking down walls and ceilings in both race and gender.

AVERY'S GARDEN

"AVERY'S GARDEN" - a whimsical bee approaches a whimsical flower.
